How to Design a Cardigan Dress for Petite Figures
I recently realized that I haven’t posted our latest editorial on the blog yet! For this brand, I’ve been focusing on closet basics that don’t change easily (i.e. knits, boots) and for the past few years I’ve been on the hunt for something like this cardigan dress. I’m so happy with how this turned out and how it went from formal to casual, and it’s bump and care friendly.
For a seemingly simple piece, the development process took the longest as we worked to customize a very comfortable and soft yarn that was blended with Lenzing™ Ecovero™ viscose. The fit of this dress is not very comfortable or curvy; it favors graphic grazing and straight cuts for some reason. In order for it to function as both a dress and a cardigan, the knit can’t be too fitted or when unbuttoned, the sides will shrink back and not cover the front. To make it more fitted at the waist, I opted for an elasticized waistband to add definition to the waist. Most EP customers who buy two sizes want to keep the smaller size, so if you’re on the fence about sizing, I’d go with the more fitted style (the material is very stretchy). Also please note that as with most knits, there will be some shrinkage if machine washed and dried.
- Warm weather
Whether it’s shorts, miniskirts or skirts, I love the feel of a longer cardigan over a much shorter piece of clothing. Also, black + camel + cream is the most reliable trio of colors that you can apply to many other outfits paired in any climate.
- Cold weather
A long black cardigan can be worn with any denim color – blue, white, gray, etc. Wear a neutral tank top and a seasonally appropriate pair of shoes so you can wear it all year round.
- Dress up
Office-appropriate clothes don’t have too low of a neckline, and they can be buttoned all the way up or opened to show off your legs. You can change your favorite belt to increase your waistline.
- Dress down
What I usually wear when I’m lounging around the house! I love this cardigan, it’s office appropriate, yet soft and cozy for curling up on the couch. Plus, my beloved Zella joggers are still in great shape after tons of wear and tear. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen a size XXS in stock in a while.
Sneakers – check. Hands-free baggage check. In case of unpredictable weather – check. It’s an easy and comfortable look for traveling, sightseeing
